The End

Sawatdee Kap!

Mission Accomplished.
I know that the mission isn't truly accomplished...there is plenty of work to be done. However, I wanted to take a few minutes and recount God's faithfulness through your prayers and our work this summer. When we first started thinking and praying about this trip and as we asked you to pray with and for us, we were asking God for these things:
The opportunity to connect 40-50 unbelieving Thais to the Church in Bangkok. As the summer progressed, we saw our relationships and connections grow and exceed this and the Thai staff are currently following up with these relationships. Pray for them, that they will be able to follow up with each of these students and that the students will connect not only to the college ministry, but also to the church at large.
That we would be a true encouragement and help to the MTW team in Bangkok. One of our great privileges this summer was that we were genuinely connected to New City Fellowship. We were able to encourage the church and the team through our work on the campus, through connecting them to unbelieving Thais, and through prayer, worship and constant fellowship throughout the summer.
That Kiki and I would gain a better feel for our place on the team when we go back to Bangkok in 2 years. Kiki and I are currently studying at Reformed Theological Seminary in Jackson, MS (she is in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program and I am pursuing a Master's of Divinity with an emphasis on Biblical Exegesis). So, we approached this summer not knowing how Kiki would use her counseling skills or what I would do with all of this Greek and Hebrew. Through our time with the team and with the Thai believers, we found a great need for Christian counseling and for biblical and theological training for believers, as well as ministering side by side with Thais in relational evangelism and mercy ministry. Pray that we take every opportunity available to grow in these areas as we continue our training. Pray also that we keep our eyes on Jesus as we pray towards and prepare for our return in two years.

That our own hearts would be burdened by the pervasive lostness of Thailand. There are very lost people everywhere. There are people who do not believe that Jesus offers anything different than any other religion right here in the states. However, its something altogether different to look out across a crowd of hundreds or thousands at any one cross section of Bangkok and to know that there may not even be one person who knows that the risen Lord Jesus is the only way to everlasting life. Continue to pray with us that God will pour out His Spirit on Thailand and that the 99.9% of Thais who are held captive to religion will meet the only source of life: Jesus Christ.
Now as we return to normal life, our team thanks you for your prayers and financial support. We are thankful to have been your missionaries (if only for a summer) to Thailand and to have partnered with you in a very specialized and focused ministry. As the blog and newsletters have now served their purpose, I will cease sending emails and will do what I've been longing to do for 6 months now: delete the blog!!!!!!
Again, thanks for your support, and please join with us as we continue to support the MTW Thailand team and the Thai church through our prayers. If you are interested in the ministry of their team, visit this site:

Leadership Bio: Kieow

Okay, we're back home now, but I wanted to do one last leadership biography to let you know of another very special servant of the King in Bangkok.

I first met Kieow five years ago on my internship in 2004, when the team was in the downtown area of Bangkok. Kieow was a fairly new believer at the time, but was already pretty impressive as a leader (from my perspective) and had an obvious, yet quiet and rock steady faith.

Seeing and working with her this summer has been a real blessing for our team, but I've personally been amazed at how God has grown her over these 5 years. She is a woman of faith who leads with confidence and gentleness and who, when she talks, commands respect.

Please pray for Kieow in these ways:

  • Rest...Kieow (like many of the Thais...in fact, you can pray this for all of the Thai staff!) is a tireless servant, and when you live in a country where 96% do not know Christ, there is a lot of service to do! Pray for her, that God will give her rest and that she will be able to be still when she needs to.
  • Decisions...Kieow would like to study more, possibly in the US when Dave and Jan return for home. Pray for doors to open for this, that she might even be able to use this time to rest and get training in counseling or theology.

A Summer in Bangkok

I've been wanting to put together a video all summer and I finally had a chance to do so. So in these three videos that you are about to watch, I had the pleasure of interviewing Yu (Thai Staff), Kirk Norris, Trey Adams, and Erin Kennedy. They all volunteered and allowed me to interview them about there time here in Bangkok. I hope you watch all three and enjoy them!

Also I want to apologize for the trembling in the video! My camera isn't primarily for video so I didn't have much to work with.

Leadership Bio: Pat

One of the great privileges of a trip like this is that we do stay long enough to get a window into the lives of Thai believers. Not only are we able to encourage the church here in general, but we are able to get to know and encourage individuals who are truly pouring their lives out for the sake of the Gospel in Thailand.

Pat is a student at Bangkok Bible College (where I hope to eventually teach a class or two!) and an intern at New City Fellowship. He is a quiet, gentle, but powerful leader with real gifting as a preacher of the Word. The first time that I heard him preach I was a bit shocked...Pat is normally very quiet and doesn't seem to be the "up front" type, but he passionately preaches the Gospel with clarity and substance.

Here are some ways that you can pray for Pat in the coming months and years:
Training: pray as he studies at Bangkok Bible Seminary and as he meets with Dave Veldhorst (the MTW Thailand team leader) and Natee (a professor at BBS and part of the teaching team at the church here) for discipleship. One of the greatest needs for Thai Christians is solid biblical training to understand and communicate the grace of the Gospel. Under Dave and Natee, who both are graduates of Covenant Seminary, he is getting excellent discipleship.

Calling: Pray for Pat as he thinks about the future concerning his place in ministry in Thailand.

Growth and Protection: Pray that God continues to grow him as he serves the Thai church, that he will be strong in Christ and that the Word of Christ will dwell richly in him. Pray, also, that he may stand firm against the schemes of the Evil One.
